John was appointed to the position in 2007 after the untimely passing of Maury Thompson. John was elected in 2008 to fill the unexpired term, and re-elected in 2010 to a 4-year term. John's home is in Selfridge.
Like many small counties in North Dakota, Sioux County designates its State's Attorney as a part-time position. So, John also maintains a private practice out ot the office he founded in Mandan in 1987.
John has lived in North Dakota since 1982, when he started working as a staff attorney for the North Dakota Legislative Council. In that position, John wrote laws that appeared in every volume of the North Dakota Century Code.
John earned his J.D. degree at St. Mary's University Law School in San Antonio, TX, in 1977. He earned his B.A. degree in Economics at Brandeis University in 1971. John also earned an LL.M. degree in Taxation at the Boston University School of Law in 1981.
John grew up in Danvers, Massachusetts.
